Caryford Hall
Update
Message from the Chair of the
Caryford Community Hall Committee
regarding progress on building work
at our hall
We are almost there! By the time you read this, we will be days away from having a brand new kitchen with underfloor heating, and a dedicated store for our cleaner. We hope you like the improvements!
We are hugely grateful to all Hall users for being so understanding and bearing with us throughout the work, and to the contractor, F J Reeves, for going out of their way to accommodate us.
The handover date is 13th December and, once we have moved everything into the new kitchen, the existing one will be stripped out and used as a temporary meeting room. It will take us a week or so to sort everything out but certainly by the New Year it will be business as usual.
Look out for details of the special events we will be putting on at the Hall as a thank you to everyone.
Does this mean we are sitting on our laurels? Not at all. We are already pressing ahead with fundraising and grant applications for phase 2, which will be the extension for the new meeting room(s), store and new ladies toilets.
Our target is to start work on this next summer. Please help us if you can. Would you put on an event for us, a coffee morning or suchlike? Every little bit helps.
We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year and thank you again for your understanding!

Tai Chi is considered one of the best exercises for all to improve their health and wellbeing. The programme combines deep breathing and relaxation, with flowing movements. It is a gentle exercise suitable for most people and can be done standing or seated.
Who are "TAI CHI for HEALTH"?
Tai Chi for Health is a charity dedicated to offering Tai Chi classes to those who might benefit from a simple exercise – a moving meditation. Jo Webb is one of it’s many trained volunteer instructors, who teach hundreds every week.

What does the NHS say about TAI CHI?
While there's scope for more rigorous research on Tai Chi's health benefits, studies have shown that it can help people aged 65 and over to reduce stress, improve posture, balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs.

Do you have to work up a sweat to get fit?
(BBC Trust Me I’m a Doctor)
In a recent programme, the Trust Me I'm a Doctor team found that even though it might not feel as difficult, doing a session of Tai Chi leads to similar increases in heart rate as moderate intensity exercise.

Would you like to take up a new hobby for the winter months?
We would like to invite you to try short mat bowls.
We are a friendly group who meet every Tuesday afternoon from 2.15pm to 4.30pm at Caryford. Hall. All you need is a pair of flat shoes and we will show you how to bowl.
We break for tea and biscuits at half time and your first session is free.
